# FAQs

**Q: Can we still use older-generation FS2Crew products?**

**A**: Yes — Generation AI and older FS2Crew products coexist without conflict. No uninstallation needed.

**Q: I find the program complex because I am not a real-world airline pilot.**

**A:** Begin with Button Control mode rather than Voice Control. Button Control is straightforward, as you simply follow a scripted, linear path without deviation. Voice Control is more challenging because it relies on voice input, making it easier to stray from the intended path. The key to mastering FS2Crew is understanding the triggers for each flow. If you miss a trigger, you can always use the Manual Flow Selector to get back on track.

**Q: Aside from AI integration and the modern GUI, what are the key operational differences between Generation AI and previous FS2Crew flight crew programs?**

**A:** While the core concept—multi-crew flying using realistic SOPs—remains unchanged, the primary operational difference is that checklists and actions are now tied to specific "modes." This approach, similar to what we used in our FSX/P3D products, has been reintroduced to minimize *false voice-recognition problems*. For instance, this prevents the Landing Checklist from being activated in error when you intend to call for the Line Up Checklist.

The modes will automatically advance as the flight progresses. However, if you want to start at a specific point and are using Voice Control, simply select the desired mode from the drop-down menu.

**Q: I've changed computers? How do I reset my license?**

**A**: We use the same system as STEAM and other major software providers. Please **LOGOUT** via the sidebar panel, then log back in using the OTP sent to your email. See the [Account / License Management](/fs2crew-generation-ai-documentation/basics/account-license-management.md) section for details.

**Q: Where are the product-specific manuals that cover available commands, flows, and tutorials?**&#x200B;

**A:** The product-specific manuals, including commands and tutorials, can be found by expanding the product area in the bottom left-hand corner. This section provides detailed guides and additional resources on a product-by-product basis.

**Q: Does Generation AI support VR headsets via the MSFS Toolbar?**

**A:** Generation AI functionality cannot currently be ported into the MSFS Toolbar due to technical differences from previous FS2Crew generations.

The MSFS Toolbar is heavily sandboxed, severely restricting the use of advanced apps. VR users may try running Generation AI inside the MSFS Toolbar via [FSDesktop](https://fsdesktop.com/) (third-party, unsupported).\
\
Failing that, VR users may continue using the older FS2Crew products for MSFS 2020 and 2024.

**Q: Why doesn’t FS2Crew use icons to reduce the panel size?**

**A:** We deliberately chose not to use icons (except for the 'hamburger' icon that opens the side navigation panel), as icons can feel like deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics. We prefer you spend your time flying, not guessing what icons represent or searching through manuals. Using text labels keeps things simple and straightforward.&#x20;

If you find the panel too large, consider these solutions:

* Adjust the vertical panel size using the Panel Size option on the Flight Control settings panel.

<figure><img src="/files/dBrAgxL4qRNfJ6XjbdWY" alt="" width="340"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Use the panel on a second monitor.
* Assign a key or joystick button to the panel toggle function for quick access.
* Move the panel off-screen when not needed, and drag it back into view as required.

**Q: How do the FA Drama and Passenger Drama options work?** \
\
**A:** Flight attendant drama and passenger drama are distinct scenarios that may arise unpredictably during your flight. Both are handled through the Comms Center. For example, a flight attendant drama scenario might involve resolving interpersonal conflicts among crew members, while passenger drama could include managing a critically ill or disruptive passenger, among other things. The range of possible scenarios is extensive.

**Options:**\
\
**Never:** Event never happens\
**Low:** 1 event per week\
**Medium:** 2 events per week\
**High:** Every flight

**Q: Why isn't "Open Mic" mode available in Voice Control?**

**A:** Open Mic mode is not available because it would continuously pick up ambient background noise, which could overwhelm the servers with irrelevant input.

**Q: Why does the Captain instruct the First Officer (FO) to stand by after initiating the Departure or Approach Brief?**

**A:** The Captain asks the FO to stand by because the AI system requires time to generate the Departure or Approach Brief. Each brief is tailored to the specific flight conditions at that moment, so the process is not instantaneous.

**Q: Does the PUSH TO TALK button on the Main Panel interact with the FO only?**

**A:** Yes, the main PUSH TO TALK button is for communications with the FO only (aircraft commands and checklists). When you talk to other crew members or have a general conversation with the FO, use the Comms Center.&#x20;

**Q: Do joystick/keyboard assignments for PUSH TO TALK also work in the Comms Center?**

**A:** No, when using the Comms Center in Voice Control mode, you must physically press the PTT button in the Comms Center.

**Q: I disabled the Comms Center. During Pre-flight, the flight attendant (FA) asked if they could close the cabin door. When I replied, the first officer (FO) detected the speech input, responded inappropriately, and gave an out-of-context reply.**

**A:** If the Comms Center is disabled, do not respond to ground/cabin crew during Pre-flight events. This is a known consequence of disabling the Comms Center. If you want to respond to the ground/cabin staff, enable the Comms Center.

**Q: I'm out of Comm Center credits. Can I still use the program?**

**A:** Yes, FS2Crew will continue to operate even if you have no Comm Center credits remaining. While you won’t be able to initiate or respond to conversations with other crew members, these interactions are optional and not required to complete a flight. They're for ambiance. See [Comms Center Overview](/fs2crew-generation-ai-documentation/comms-center-chat-system/comms-center-overview.md) for more information.

**Q: While running a checklist, the first officer (FO) repeatedly announces the same checklist item.**

A: The FO will continue to repeat a checklist item if it is not recognized as being in the correct position. You can disable this repetition feature in the options menu if desired.

<figure><img src="/files/nkQ41DDb1SqSCBKaTG7s" alt="" width="348"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Q: What is "FORCE DESCENT MODE"?**

**A:** "FORCE DESCENT MODE" is an optional feature that allows users to manually toggle Descent Mode. While FS2Crew will automatically enter Descent Mode when users run the Approach Brief, certain actions during descent, approach, and landing require this mode to be active for related events to trigger (such as the FO's 10,000-foot descent flow).&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/4mOUmI0sGfsjo7gYAr9c" alt="" width="360"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you choose not to run the Approach Brief, you can use this button to manually activate Descent Mode in FS2Crew. This ensures that all descent and approach-related events can be triggered.

Descent Mode indicates to FS2Crew that you are descending to the arrival airport.

If you accidentally activate Descent Mode—such as by running the Approach Brief during the climb—you can easily turn Descent Mode off using this button.

**Q: Sometimes the crew in the Comms Center says odd things. Why?**

**A**: The Comms Center AI has limited access to the simulation's state, which can result in responses that seem odd or out of context. It's best not to interpret Comms Center conversations literally.

**Q: Region-appropriate crew names for the FO and FA are not being automatically generated.**

**A:** The FO and FA names are generated using the 3-letter airline ICAO code entered in SimBrief or manually. Be sure to enter the 3-letter ICAO code, not the IATA code. The Captain's name defaults to the account holder's name, but you may change it manually if desired.

<figure><img src="/files/nNozV3HbS3nl2eVcZtPS" alt="" width="349"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Q: The FO performed the after-start flow, but during taxi the flaps returned to the up position and the spoiler disarmed.**

**A:** This happened because external hardware bound to the flaps and spoiler transmitted a signal based on the current physical position of the switch that did not match the position of the switch in the aircraft. External hardware often continually broadcasts switch positions even when the switch or lever is never moved. This is a common issue that users with external hardware need to be mindful of.

**Q: I purchased the voice and language pack, but my crew member doesn’t speak my language with the correct accent.**

**A:** Select a voice for each crew member that matches both the language and the desired accent. For example, to achieve an authentic Finnish accent in Finnish, choose a Finnish voice actor; for Korean, choose a Korean voice. Using a voice actor from the wrong country will sound unnatural and may break immersion.

<figure><img src="/files/KrIo9XByM0rQcZQbpZFT" alt="" width="189"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Sometimes only two country-specific voice actors are available in the list, even though three positions need to be filled. In that situation, assign the same voice to multiple roles.\
\
Reminder: The [Language pack](/fs2crew-generation-ai-documentation/basics/available-add-on-packs.md) requires the [Voice Pack](/fs2crew-generation-ai-documentation/basics/available-add-on-packs.md).&#x20;

**Q: I am flying in a foreign country and own the Language Pack. However, the ground staff and crew are communicating with me in their local language during pre-flight events.**

**A:** Activate the "Ground Staff/Crew: English Only" option. This setting ensures that the ground crew will communicate with you in English, even when you are in a non-English-speaking country.

**Q. The AI Command Center is running, but when I click the green desktop icon, the Command Center does not open.**\
\
A. Open the Notification Area (System Tray), right-click the green Command Center icon, and select "Restore."

**Q: Will I ever run out of downloads? My account shows a number for downloads remaining.**

A: No, you will not run out of downloads. The download count is provided for your reference, but most users only need to run the main setup file once. After installation, the app will update automatically whenever new versions are released—these updates do not count against your download limit.
